Scream Queens 2018, Day 20
Mia Farrow

October 10, 2018 by Avery Faeth

We couldn't get through October without mentioning Mia Farrow. Mia will live forever through her performance (and killer haircut) alongside John Cassavetes and Ruth Gordon as Rosemary Woodhouse in "Rosemary's Baby" (Roman Polanski, 1968). Her doelike innocence pairs perfectly with her unhinged terror. Mia plays another mother, Julia Lofting, grappling with the supernatural as it manipulates the loss of her child in a more under-the-radar horror gem, "Full Circle" (Richard Loncraine, 1977), based on a novella by Peter Straub and also known by its original title "The Haunting of Julia." It's a perfect blend of a murder mystery, a haunted house ghost story, and a family-in-crisis supernatural drama, with a perfectly eerie soundtrack by Colin Towns. It also stars Keir Dullea and Tom Conti and features seances, emergency tracheaotomies, dead turtles, and a wind-up monkey with cymbals. Dig this one up wherever you can.
