Scream Kings 2019, Day 6
William Hickey
Tonight we bring you a cinema legend across many genres, William Hickey! Although he is most famous for teaching some of the finest actors of the modern age, William also left his mark across several decades of horror. In "The Sentinel" (Michael Winner, 1977), he's an ex-con named Perry who helps the main character's boyfriend dig up information on the bizarre apartment complex she's moved into. She thinks the tenants are just eccentric - he thinks they're supernatural. This one is a real treat if you've never seen it before. The cult classic B-movie "Puppetmaster" (David Schmoeller, 1989) opens with William's Andre Toulon going to extreme lengths to protect the secret of life he's bestowed upon his puppet creations. In "Tales From the Dark Side: the Movie" (John Harrison, 1990), he follows up a 1983 television role with the character of Drogan, a corrupt pharmaceutical businessman with a very bad cat allergy. He returned to television with a 1990 episode of "Tales From the Crypt." He lent his distinctive voice talents to the character of Dr. Finklestein in the beloved stop-motion film "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (Henry Sellick, 1993), a character that originally had the sinister backstory of disgusting himself as Oogie Boogie to overthrow Jack Skellington! And in a surprisingly effective Burt Reynolds horror flick "The Maddening" (Danny Huston, 1995), he plays the character of Daddy. William Hickey is one of the most storied scream kings in royalty!
