Scream Kings 2019, Day 23: Danny Elfman
Tonight we meet crossover king Danny Elfman! Famous for the distinctive sound he imparts to the music he composes, he's orchestrated the scores for some of the most classic modern subculture films. In fact, the very sound of Tim Burton is attributed to Danny's style, although he's adept at far more than the crazy carnival sound you might think. He also takes his turn in front of the camera, starting as Satan in "Forbidden Zone" (Richard Elfman, 1979), also the first movie he scored. He voices multiple characters in "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (Henry Sellick, 1993), including the Clown with the Tearaway Face, Barrel, and Jack Skellington's singing voice. Then, in the underrated psychic thriller "The Gift" (Sam Raimi, 2000), he plays Tommy Lee Ballard, a fiddle player under suspicion due to a women's psychic gifts. He lends his voice again, this time to the character of Bonejangles in "Corpse Bride" (Tim Burton & Mike Johnson, 2005).
