David Warner
Our scream king this evening is one of my personal favorites, David Warner! He got his start in horror in the anthology "From Beyond the Grave" (Kevin Connor, 1974). One of his most famous roles is as photographer Jennings in "The Omen" (Richard Donner, 1976) who helps an ambassador fight his antichrist son. He battles a plague of killer bats in "Nightwing" (Arthur Hiller, 1979). He plays the owner of the titular museum in "Waxwork" (Anthony Hickox, 1988). In "Grave Secrets" (Donald P. Borchers), he plays a professor of the paranormal battling a vengeful ghost. Starting a trend for Lovecraft, he stars in "The Unnamable II: the Statement of Randolph Carter" (Jean-Paul Ouellette, 1992). The anthology TV movie "Body Bags" (John Carpenter & Tobe Hooper, 1993) stars David in a segment about a hair transplant gone wrong. Another anthology film, "Necronomicon: Book of the Dead" (Christopher Gans, Shusuke Kaneko, & Brian Yuzna, 1993), stars David as a man who is immortal as long as he stays cold. In what the director considers his favorite of his own films, he plays a psychiatric doctor administering to a man suffering Lovecraftian nightmares in "In the Mouth of Madness" (John Carpenter, 1994). Then he shows up in "Inner Sanctum II" (Fred Olen Ray, 1994) as one of many competing for a murdered man's inheritance. He has a minor role in the cheesy but fun Converse-sponsored horror comedy "Ice Cream Man" (Paul Norman, 1995). He plays drama teacher Gus Gold in "Scream 2" (Wes Craven, 1997), the college sequel to the smash hit slasher. In "Superstition" (Kenneth Hope, 2001), he plays a judge overseeing the trial of a babysitter accused of witchcraft. He also stars in episodes of TV's "Twin Peaks," "Mystery," "The Alienist," "Ripper Street," "Inside No. 9," "Penny Dreadful," "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy," "The Hunger," "The Outer Limits," "Toonsylvania," "Perversions of Science," "Gargoyles," and "Tales From the Crypt."
