A kindhearted Avon lady finds a mechanical man in the deserted castle high above her picture-perfect neighborhood. His gentleness is concealed by the blades he wields instead of hands, the final gift his toymaker master was unable to bestow upon him. Magic and mischief follow him down the hill as the town falls under his spell and he falls in love with the daughter of his kindly keeper. Will he maintain his purity in a world that looks ideal but hides darker human foibles? And how much harder is first love when you're hardly human? This charming modern fairytale is one of its director's crowning achievements.
