So sorry we missed last night - had phone troubles, so we couldn't post our New Year's favorite, "The Poseidon Adventure" (Ronald Neame, 1972), starring Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Shelley Winters, Roddy McDowall, and Leslie Nielsen. A passenger yacht's last trip before the junkyard, carrying hopeful grandparents, blossoming youths, newlyweds, and a variety of eccentrics on New Year's Eve, is pushed into an emergency situation by a greedy investor hungry to make a profit. When the ship capsizes, a reverend suffering a crisis of faith has to rally an unlikely group of survivors to make their way to the hull in the hopes of being rescued. Featuring a thrilling John Williams score, this film is a rousing way to bring in the new year!
