Christmas Countdown 2019, Day 27
Monty Python's Life of Brian

December 12, 2019 by Avery Faeth

As far as religious parodies go, you don't get much more raucous than "Monty Python's Life of Brian" (Terry Jones, 1979), starring Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. On the night of Jesus' birth, another child is born in the adjoining manger and spends the rest of his life following in his holy shadow. He seeks to join the local political rebellion against the Romans, a plan put to the test by his mother's admission that his father was a centurion. Sidetracked by bureaucracy, romance, and a ride aboard a spaceship that ends in messiahhood, Brian plays his own part in the mythical story of Christmas. Considered one of the most controversial and sacrilegious of the Monty Python films, this black comedy is great for your relatives with a sense of humor.
