It's my father's birthday, so tonight we're watching an unexpected Christmas favorite of his, "Cronos" (Guillermo del Toro, 1993), starring Ron Perlman, Federico Luppi, and Claudio Brook. An alchemist in search of the key to immortality hides his secrets in an angel statue. Two disparate lives come into conflict when the statue shows up in an antiques shop, and a dying millionaire tries to lay claim to the artifact the store owner has become entangled with. One is driven by greed and hubris, the other by love and family. This is one Christmas present that no one would want to regift.
