A Miracle on 34th Street

Tonight we celebrate with a remake of an old classic, "A Miracle on 34th Street" (Les Mayfield, 1994), starring Richard Attenborough, Dylan McDermott, Elizabeth Perkins, and Mara Wilson. Dorey Walker is a practical businesswoman, serving as the director of special events for Cole's New York department store. Her own history of heartbreak has led her to guide her own daughter away from fantasy. So when the man she's hired to play Santa is the spitting image of Saint Nick, she discourages little Susan from letting her imagination run wild. But charming, romantic lawyer Bryan Bedford, who has been trying to win Dorey's heart for a long time, sees the man's magic and the importance of that magic in a little girl's life. A scheming competitor plays dirty and gets the law involved in deciding whether or not this man really believes he is Santa. And is he? This John Hughes-penned remake is a nice update to a Christmas classic.
