Top Ten Tuesday (24 )

Top Ten Books To Get You In The Halloween Mood
-Unless it's a fantasy book I'm not typically a huge fan of gore/scary stories.  Come fall every year though I am always in the mood to read a little something scary, even if it is just a book that "feels" like fall or has some supernatural elements to it. Here are some of my favorite thrillers or scary stories that I think are perfect if you're looking for a book to put you in the Halloween spirit!

1. Ghost House (The Ghost House Saga #1) by Alexandra Adornetto
2. Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna #1) by Kendare Blake
3. Hexed (The Witch Hunter #1) by Michelle Krys
4. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black
5. Thorn Jack (Night and Nothing #1) by Katherine Harbour
6. Briar Queen (Night and Nothing #2) by Katherine Harbour
7. Compulsion (The Heirs of Watson Island #1) by Martina Boone
8.  Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick
9. Splintered by A.G. Howard
10. Accused (Rosato & DiNunzio #1) by Lisa Scottoline

  1. I like a scary or paranormal vibe in the fall as well. Splintered looks good, I always like those covers and the whole premise just sounds interesting!

    1. The Splintered Series is by far my favorite Alice in Wonderland retelling! And that's saying a lot since I scoop up every retelling I can! I hope you get a chance to read them soon Greg!

  2. Loved The Coldest Girl in Coldtown so much! Tana was such a great character and Gavriel... wow. Loved him and all his strange old world charm and madness. One of the very few stand alone books that had me desperately wishing for a sequel!

    1. Agreed! Gavriel was fantastic! A little strange, but in the best way possible. it reminds me of how people love the Madhatter because of his uniqueness. I wish that The Coldest Girl wasn't a standalone because I wanted more so badly!

  4. I really need to read AG Howard's Splintered series.

Do you like zombie stories? My fave so far is The Forest of Hands and Teeth series.

    1. I don't know that I've really tried any to be honest! sometimes I have a hard time taking zombies seriously LOL I am not a walking dead fan.
Maybe I would like them in book version though! I am going to take a look at the forest of hands and teeth series! Thanks for the recommendation Chrystal!

  5. Hmm, maybe I should pull Anna Dressed in Blood off the shelf?!? I'm not much of a Halloween fan but I like a book that gives me the "willies". ;)

    1. It was good! I think it's a fun Halloween (ish) read, although I recall only giving it 3 stars at the time (or maybe 3.5 I can't remember) because all the hype was overdone on it. I liked it, but not the new Stephen King by any means.

  6. I nearly put The Coldest Girl in Coldtown on my list. I agree, it doesn't have to be horror to be a good Halloween read.

    1. It's so good! Holly Black is one of my favorite writers but have to say, Coldest Girl in Coldtown was exceptional, even for her!
      Thanks for stopping by Ellie!
