Top Ten Tuesday (7)

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish

Top Ten Characters Everyone Loves, But I Just Don't Get
-This week I had a harder time than usual coming up with 10 for my list, but because of the topic I only had 5.

1. Ronan Lynch (The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater)
-It's not that I DISLIKE Ronan, but he's not one of my favorites from the series.
2. Chaol (Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas)
-As much as I adored Chaol going into the series I'm still team Rowan.
3. Mal (The Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo)
-I'm likely a masochist for saying it, but I loved the Darkling and despite everything he did to Alina I couldn't help but ship the two of them in the series.  Hence my dislike for Mal.
4. Kaz (Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo)
-Sorry but my sympathies don't lie with him ESPECIALLY after reading the ending.
5. Peta (The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins)
-Like Ronan, it's not that I disliked Peta but I was secretly rooting for Gale all along.

  1. Fun list, Emily! Some I know and some I don't. I never really warmed to any of the Raven Boys. I wasn't a huge fan of the first book and never continued with the series. I've only read the first Throne of Glass book but based on that alone I am very much Team Chaol. :) And Peeta... yeah, he was always my pick. I always felt like Katniss and Gale were destined to be friends.

    1. Thanks Tanya!
I was the SAME way with the Raven Boys initially! all the hype spoiled the start of that series for me, because I had such huge expectations going into it that I just couldn't get into the story.
I actually forced myself to finish book 1 and get into book 2. I think about halfway through book 2 was when I truly got into that series and started to enjoy it. not that i think you should ever force yourself to keep reading a book BUT i will say it worked for me this time. if it was anyone but Stiefvater I would have given up completely on it. but she's one of my favorite authors so i made the exception and boy am i glad i did! The Raven King comes out soon and I'm really excited for it!

I hope you get a chance to read the rest of the TOG series soon! it's honestly one of my favorite series! This year I got a litograph (i think that's what they're called?) of the first book in the series from a friend! it's SO neat and I got it framed so I could hang it in my room!
Maybe i should post a picture sometime! if i do i'll tag you in it so you can see it!

Thanks for stopping by as always Tanya!

  2. Sounds like you had already read some by Steifvater before The Raven Boys and you already knew you liked her writing/story telling. The Raven Boys was the first I read by her and there just wasn't enough there to make me want to read/learn more. I think if I was like you and already knew I liked the author I might have pushed on thru, too, and continued with the series. I'm glad it worked out for you in that case!

I will definitely continue on with the TOG series. No doubt. I was kind of unsure how I was feeling about it all through the book. And then there was one scene and it was like, that's it, I'm sold. LOL The final fight scene (or whatever you would call it) and C is getting her butt kicked and she's down on the ground. Chaol gets down and reaches out and their fingers are almost touching (but he can't enter the circle) and he's telling her to get up and fight and she's just staring at their fingers almost touching... OMG, that did it for me. I'm ALL about the romance and the swoon so it was *that* part that made me think the book/series had promise if there could possibly be more of that. :)

    1. Yes I have! I read The Shiver Series by Maggie Stiefvater and it's what got me hooked on her writing from the start! Have you read that one?

LOL the funny thing is I remember that scene! and i did fall hard for Chaol at the time but now I have a new ship for that series! (contrary to popular ship, but that's ok LOL) I love that series for all the swoon worthy relationships!

    2. Oh! And about Chaol... I try to avoid spoilers but I always hear people talking about all the TOG series ships. I get the feeling that maybe Chaol is out of the running and that kinda breaks my heart... but I will not give up on him! LOL

  3. Nope, I haven't read the Shiver series. I had read such mixed things about it and then I read The Raven Boys and was kind of meh - so I decided to just pass on everything else. There are sooo many books that I am super excited about so I'd rather read those than ones that don't grab me and get me excited to read them. :)
